a future compact electric SUV!

Toyota is finally embarking on 100% electric, with a concept very close to the series, and which foreshadows a complete range.

Toyota unveiled on April 19 its vision ofa future electric SUV, the bZ4X Concept! The latter takes the format of the RAV4 compact SUV, and the angular and aggressive style of the Toyota of recent years. But behind a look that does not surprise, it is the revolution: the bZ4X will indeed be Toyota’s first 100% electric car, if we do not count the curious without a C + Pod license.

Toyota has always shown itself hesitant to switch to all electric, but today no longer has a choice, faced with the pressure of regulations and the arrival of many 100% electric competitors who come to compete with the hybrids of the Japanese brand.

A new platform developed with Subaru

If Toyota does not disclose not much technical info on the bZ4X Concept, the latter seems very close to a production version, which should land in mid-2022. On the other hand, we know that it is based on the new 100% electric e-TNGA platform, that it will be available in four-wheel drive with two motors, and that its technique was developed in collaboration with Subaru, as for the sport GR86.

One of the few details that you don’t expect on the production version is the steering wheel, which mimics the astonishing truncated system already seen on the restyled Tesla Model S. Toyota wants to highlight un “steer-by-wire” system, that is to say without a physical steering column, but with an electrical force feedback system. Toyota specifies that the assembly allows erase road imperfections for more precise and direct steering. The rest of the interior, however, is more classic.

bZ: 7 models by 2025

The other important information to remember is the launch of the bZ range, which will contain Toyota’s 100% electric vehicles. bZ, it is the acronym of ” Beyond Zero“, Beyond zero. Toyota wants to show that its vehicles will be zero emissions, but not that: they will be also fun, practical, etc.

Toyota plans to unveil no less than 15 electric vehicles by 2025, of which 7 will be part of the bZ range. We imagine that the rest will be made up of utilities.

See you next year to find out the final version of this bZ4X. We also expect, by then, the Subaru version of this compact electric SUV.
