Ford unveils its new Evos, at the Shanghai 2021 Motor Show, a new crossover that will replace the Ford Mondeo in 2022.
Launched in 1993 and declined in four generations for almost thirty years, the Ford Mondeo is living its last hours of career. Indeed, in a world where SUVs and crossovers are more popular than ever, classic family sedans are no longer successful. Ford has therefore decided to replace it, by next year, with a new family crossover : the Ford Evos, currently on display at the Shanghai Motor Show, which opens today and through April 28, 2021.
Halfway between a sedan, a coupe and an SUV, the new Ford Evos takes the name of the eponymous concept car presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011, and is based on the C2 platform of the Ford Focus and Kuga. If we find the lines of the new Ford style, the Evos is distinguished by retractable door handles, as well as a specific “parametric” grille, highlighted by a luminous border connecting the two front optics. Orange contrasting spots, which can be found in particular on the grille, the sills or the brake callipers, enhance the whole.
It is inside that the Evos is most impressive: its high-tech cockpit is dominated by a vast screen, which extends horizontally over no less than 1.1 meter
on the dashboard. This integrates the 12.3-inch instrument cluster, placed in front of the driver, as well as a 27-inch large 4K touchscreen, usable by the driver as the front passenger. This made it possible to remove many physical buttons, and Ford is putting forward its advanced voice assistant in order to interact with the car. The model is also equipped with the Ford BlueCruise system (in video above) from autonomous driving level 2, which is enriched with C-V2X technology to predict potential risks and thus improve the safety of the car.
Ford has not yet released more information on the Ford Evos, but it is expected to be produced in China by the Changan Ford joint venture, for the needs of Asian markets. A launch in Europe should meanwhile take place by next year: on the old continent, we should find under its hood thermal and plug-in hybrid engines.
