The Lexus ES sedan gets a mid-career restyling accompanied by improvements to its chassis, finish and on-board technologies.
First introduced in 1989, the Lexus ES is a sedan based on the same platform as the Toyota Camry. More than thirty years later, the Japanese road is still in the game with a seventh generation launched in 2018, and which is only marketed in a hybrid version in Europe. Today it offers itself a restyling, which embeds more novelties than it seems.
Aesthetically, it will take a trained eye to recognize the new Lexus ES: the grille evolves with fewer vertical lines, replaced by L-shaped patterns, which give more relief to the whole and give it a more dynamic look. The LED headlamps have also been redesigned, supplemented on the more upscale versions of BladeScan AHS adaptive high beam technology, while new 17, 18 and 19-inch rims are appearing in the catalog. The color chart is also enriched with new shades, such as Sonic Platinum and Payne Gray.
On board, the interior colors are enhanced with Forest Brown, as well as an F Sport trim combining white, red and black. The in-car infotainment system updates with new touch screen oriented towards the driver, closer to 10 cm and turned about 5 degrees towards it. Support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also present, while a Lexus Link mobile application allows you to interact with the car remotely.
Technically, the Lexus ES now receives stiffer rear suspension reinforcements to improve its handling, as well as a new brake pedal with revised ergonomics, not to mention an adaptive variable suspension (AVS) improved for better comfort and better stability.
The embedded technologies update with the latest version of the Lexus Safety System +, including adaptive cruise control, active emergency lane correction, lane recognition, cyclist and pedestrian detection, and cameras more efficient digital exterior mirrors.
The restyled Lexus ES will be marketed in Europe during the year 2021, at prices that will be officially announced later.
