American artist Richard Phillips, known for his hyper-realistic style, was commissioned by Porsche Switzerland to design a 100% electric work of art from a Porsche Taycan. This Art Car was carried out in December 2020 in a restaurant in Zurich, and was implemented online auction a few days ago by the famous auction house RM Sotheby’s.

Porsche Taycan (2021): a charity sale

This unique piece was auctioned for 185,000 Swiss francs, the equivalent of approximately 167.800 euros. By way of comparison, a production Porsche Taycan 4S is marketed at a price starting from 109,414 euros. All of the profits from the sale will be donated to the association Swiss Social Culture, to support artists in Switzerland affected by the health crisis.

The model that served as the basis for this work of art is a Porsche Taycan 4S, covered in a flowery and colorful livery, which is a reproduction of a 2010 painting by Phillips entitled “Queen of the Night”, itself inspired by the work of the Swiss painter Adolf Dietrich. This painting was reproduced on an adhesive covering in vinyl, the production and installation of which were entrusted to the German company SIGNal Design.

The American artist had already collaborated with Porsche in 2019, decorating the Porsche 911 RSR of the Project 1 Motorsport team, which will become the first Art Car of history to have won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the GTE Am category.
