Here is the Quds Rise, Lebanon’s first electric car!
Lebanon holds its first 100% electric sports car! The Quds Rise was presented to the public on April 24 in Beirut. With a 50 kWh battery and a 160 hp electric motor, its range is estimated at 450 km, with a 0 to 100 km / h in about 5 seconds. Respectable!
The design is resolutely sporty, while the grille evokes the Dome of the Rock, the famous historic mosque of Jerusalem. Inside, we discover a large 15.9-inch central screen, and two extra seats in the back. The set weighs only 1,100 kg, a feat considering the weight of the batteries.
The Quds Rise (Quds is the traditional name for the city of Jerusalem), is the fruit of the efforts of Jihad Mohammad, a Palestinian businessman born in Lebanon. The car will be entirely built in Lebanon, all for one price set at $ 30,000, or around € 25,000. An attractive price in Europe, but prohibitive in Lebanon, which is going through a deep economic crisis with inflation out of control. But Jihad Mohammad wants to be resolutely optimistic, and sets a objective of 10,000 cars producedin 2022. Very ambitious, when we know that only 62 new cars were sold to Lebanon in the first two months of 2021, according to Al-Jazeera.
Especially since the country’s electricity network is clearly not ready to go electric. The cuts are almost daily in the country. But to help the Lebanese adopt the Quds Rise, the company offers to pay only half the price of the car in cash and dollars, the rest being a 0% loan in Lebanese pounds to be paid in 5 years. It remains to be seen whether Jihad Mohammad’s bet will pay off.
