The Stellantis group, resulting from the recent merger between PSA and FCA, posts a good first quarter despite the crisis
It is Richard Palmer, the administrative and financial director of Stellantis, who affirms: “For our first quarter since the merger, Stellantis achieves a solid turnover thanks to its diversified brand portfolio which generates both higher volumes, a positive price effect and a favorable impact of the product mix, despite the negative effects of the global semiconductor crisis. “
The group includes brands like Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Fiat, or Jeep and has sold nearly 1,567,000 vehicles over the first three months of 2021. If we compare to the separate results of PSA and FCA in the first quarter of 2020, this represents a 11% increase.
It’s’Europe which represents Stellantis’ main market: 823,000 vehicles were sold during the first quarter, an increase of 11%.
On North America, the group sold nearly 451,000 models (-4%) and in South America the group has sold nearly 189,000 units, a jump of 49%!
Currently, the semiconductor shortage affects nearly 8 assembly plants out of the 44 that the group owns. It would have prevented Stellantis from producing nearly 190,000 vehicles in the first quarter.
The shortage thus leads to suspension of certain assembly lines and strength of days of technical unemployment for employees.
According to Richard Palmer, visibility is “very limited” and the group manages the situation “day to day”, depending on the stock and the profitability of the models.
The group also claims that the lack of electronic chips will last and have a “greater impact” in the second trimester.
