Honda officially presented the eleventh generation of the Civic in the United States in a notchback silhouette. The European version should follow later.
After the presentation of the Honda Civic Prototype in November 2020, and some first images of the leaked production model in China a few weeks ago, the Japanese firm officially lifts the veil on the eleventh generation of its compact, currently launched in North America with this notchback sedan silhouette.
As we expected, the new generation of Honda Civic swaps its bold lines for a wiser and contemporary style, with a modern light signature and clean lines. Compared to the previous generation, this new Civic notchback is longer (+2 cm or 4.67 meters) while being less high (-1 cm to 1.41 meters), and its wheelbase is longer by 4 cm, or 2.74 meters in total.
The interior follows the same spirit, and inaugurates the new interior style of the brand, with clean and horizontal lines. Most of the orders are grouped within thetouch screen central (from 7 to 9 inches depending on the version) compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but unlike its competitors, some physical keys have been retained, such as on the air conditioning console for example. A digital instrument cluster (from 7 to 10.2 inches depending on the version) completes the set, as well as a 12-speaker Bose Premium audio system.
According to Honda, this new version would be “The funniest to drive and the most technologically advanced Civic” : to do this, the chassis has been stiffened, the rear track widened, while the steering as well as the suspensions have been revised, for better road behavior. It also carries driver assistance systems state-of-the-art, such as semi-autonomous driving or emergency braking with recognition of pedestrians and cyclists.
Under the hood, the choice is given in the United States between a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 158 horsepower, as well as a 1.5-liter turbocharged 182 horsepower, these two four-cylinder blocks being mated to a CVT. We will have to wait a few more months before seeing this new generation of Honda Civic land with us, with a compact hatchback silhouette more popular in Europe, as well as electrified engines. US customers will be able to order it this spring.
