Porsche is preparing a 100% electric Macan for 2023, but is not abandoning the current thermal version, with a new restyling expected for this year.
Because we are never better served than by ourselves, Porsche cuts the grass under the feet of spy photographers and directly reveals the first images of the prototypes, still heavily camouflaged, of the future generation of Porsche Macan who will be 100% electric. After being developed at the brand’s R&D center in Weissach, Germany, the prototypes are now undergoing dynamic testing in real conditions on the open road.
The launch of the future Second generation Porsche Macan, which will be based on Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE), is expected for 2023. By then, the development prototypes will have covered more than three million kilometers of tests around the world, with varying climatic conditions. These tests in real conditions will complete the data acquired by the virtual development of the model, which makes it possible in particular to optimize aerodynamics, energy management, or even acoustics, thanks to numerous computer prototypes.
According to Michael Steiner, Head of Research and Development at Porsche: “ Like the Porsche Taycan, the all-electric Macan, with its 800-volt architecture, will offer a typical Porsche E-Performance experience: the electric Macan will be the sportiest model in its segment. »
But don’t worry fans of the Porsche bestseller: the Stuttgart firm plans to renew the thermal version of the Macan this year. No new generation of planned for this one, but we should expect to discover a deep restyling of the sports SUV by the end of 2021, which will continue to be marketed in parallel with the future 100% electric opus.
