One of the last produced copies of the Renault 4L will soon be auctioned in the UK!
Launched in 1961, the Renault 4, better known under the name of “4L”, will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year, and rumors already announce the arrival of a brand new Renault 4 with neo-retro sauce, which would now be 100% electric.
Produced for over 30 years at around 8.1 million copies, the Renault 4 is one of the most emblematic models of French automobile production, with the Citroën 2 CV it competes directly. It is also the second most produced French car in history, just behind the Peugeot 206 and its 12 million copies.
The Renault 4 was mainly manufactured in the historic Renault plant in Boulogne-Billancourt, but also nearly 600,000 units in Slovenia (former Yugoslavia), in the Novo Mesto plant which today produces the Renault Clio, and where the production of the 4L had been relocated after the closure of the Boulogne-Billancourt site.
One of the last examples of the Renault 4 produced in this factory will soon be for auction in England. Dated of 1992, this copy of the 4L only displays 88,650 km on the odometer, and has been kept in remarkable condition: it is rust-free, which is rather rare for a 4L! It sports red paint, contrasting with gray-colored bumpers and grille, while the interior is covered in black-colored leatherette. And although it has been registered in the UK, the cockpit has a left hand steering wheel.
No starting price has been announced for this 1992 Renault 4L, but the Historics Auctioneers website indicates thatno reserve price was only set for sale. It will be found among the 171 models that will go on sale on May 15, 2021 at Ascot Racecourse near London in England.
