After burning a fire at a level crossing, a Mercedes A-Class stuck on the railroad tracks narrowly avoided an oncoming train.
Thanks to a technical camera from Infrabel, the network manager railway Belgian, we can observe an astonishing scene which was filmed in Tilff, near Liège in Belgium. When a level crossing closes, we see that a van passes the red light, and that a Mercedes Class A follows suit. Unfortunately for the driver from the latter, the barriers close in front of the car, blocking it on the tracks. Run for your life !
Fortunately, the Infrabel technical staff present on the scene had the excellent initiative to warn the train driver so that he triggered his emergency braking. The train thus manages to slow down, which allows the Mercedes to extricate itself from its bad situation by freeing itself in extremis. An accident dramatic was narrowly avoided but the unconsciousness of this driver could have been fatal. In Belgium, 9 people died because of their imprudence at a level crossing in 2020.
