Mercedes-Maybach S 680 (2021): no, the V12 is not dead!

Introduced last year, the new generation of the Mercedes S-Class is the flagship of the German manufacturer. But for its customers looking foreven more luxury and exclusivity, the large sedan was also declined at Maybach, with a V8 engine of 510 horsepower to start.

If the V12 engine has disappeared from the Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG ranges, it seems that it will continue its career well, at least for a time, at Mercedes-Maybach : indeed, on the occasion of the centenary of the luxury brand this year, a new version S 680 will crown the Maybach range.

Mercedes-Maybach S 680 (2021): a twin-turbo V12 engine of 612 horsepower

First photos of the model have already appeared on the brand’s official website in Russia, although Mercedes has yet to officially release details about it. We rediscover the S-Class signed Maybach with a two-tone paint and imposing multi-spoke rims, while the “S 680” and “V12” badges are appearing on the body.

Under the hood, the engine 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 will develop no less than 612 horsepower, and will be associated with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Enough to move without problem the more than 2.3 tons of the model, which will swallow the 0 to 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds, for a maximum speed of 250 km / h. A four-wheel-drive 4Matic transmission should also be there.
