Before being called the 8 Series, BMW’s big GT was the 6 Series. Equipped with its larger V8 in the 650i version, it still develops 450 hp! But obviously, it is far from being enough to compete with this Golf GTI TCR on the Autobahn …
The 650i was, a few years ago, the biggest GT from BMW without an M badge. Product from 2011 to 2017, this luxurious coupe features a twin-turbo V8 developing 450 hp and 650 Nm of torque. The example shown in the video is also equipped with the Bavarian brand’s xDrive 4-wheel drive system. This allows it to reach 100 km / h in just 4.4 s! On the Autobahn, he’s a big fish.
But obviously not big enough for this little Golf GTI. Finally small, it is all the same the TCR version of 290 ch with which the 0 to 100 swallows in 5.6 s! On paper, there is no photo, the BMW has a head start and should easily get rid of the German on the Autobahn. But the reverse is true …
Launched at good speed, the GTI can be seen approaching the BMW very quickly in the driver’s mirror. After passing a few trucks, the latter lines up on the right lane, probably to measure the effectiveness of their two mechanics.. And surprise, the GTI leaves the 650i in place!
We then hear the driver mention a possible reprogramming of the Golf. It seems very likely. Still, this little “race” amused the occupants of the 650i who greet this opponent before quietly continuing their journey.
