the route of the 2022 edition unveiled

The route of the Dakar 2022 is now known. The kickoff for this new edition will be on January 2!

The Dakar, the most famous of all raid rallies, has unveiled its route for the 2022 edition, which is particularly demanding for the participants as well as for their machines. The race will take place, as has been the case since the departure from South America after the 2019 edition, in Saudi Arabia.

As the star of this course, the Rub al-Khali, or “Empty Quarter”. Occupying the entire southern part of the Arabian Peninsula, it is theone of the largest sand deserts of the world. To drive home the point, it will be the scene of a marathon stage: a two-day special during which technical assistance will be largely limited. About what push crews and vehicles to their limits.

This large sandy portion should also allow cars to limit their punctures, a point of contention in 2021, due to the different technical regulations affecting the two main categories of cars fighting for victory.

Hybrid Audi at the start!

The start of the Dakar 2022 will be given on January 2

, after a prologue run on New Year’s Day. The starting city will be Ha’il, the Mecca of automotive culture in Saudi Arabia. The capital, Riyadh, will welcome the crews on a rest day on January 8, with an arrival scheduled for January 14 in Jeddah. The city had been both the point of departure and arrival in 2021. All in all, the competitors will have to face about 8,000 km of race.

Great novelty for this 2022 edition: the arrival of the category T1-E, which brings together cars that are more respectful of the environment. We will find there in particular Audi, which has chosen to enter a new hybrid buggy. Making sure you see this technology at the end of such a difficult event will be one of the big challenges for the team.
