info on the future electric SUV!

Smart’s SUV is taking shape, and will be presented at the Munich Motor Show this year as a concept car.

We know it, Smart struggles to stand out in terms of sales and shows unconvincing results. But since Daimler’s move from pure ownership to a joint venture with the Chinese giant Geely, things could change.

Today we have a quick look at the next vehicle that will kick off the brand’s rebirth. As we mentioned already at the end of last year, the brand plans to renew its offer with a fully electric SUV, scheduled for 2021.

An SUV to give new impetus to Smart

To announce his arrival, Smart published a series of official sketches of its future SUV, which bears the internal code name HX11. In the sketches, we can see a vehicle with a style that is both fluid and dynamic, which sports rounded shapes and curved sides.

Daimler Group Brand Design Director Gorden Wagener told our UK colleagues ofAutoExpress what ” the style of this future SUV will be different from that of the Smart Fortwo and that this model will be an opportunity to reinvent the brand ”. The design will be ” cool, sexy and grown-up instead of the usually cute and playful formal register.e ».

A vehicle designed in China

Another element that is important to note is its 100% electric technical basis which will be developed in partnership with the Chinese manufacturer Geely, who own 50% of Smart shares since last year.

The platform, called SEA pour Sustainable Experience Architecture is shared with the future SUV Volvo XC20, a brand that Geely has also owned since 2010.

According to the manufacturer, the small smart SUV should be equipped with an engine with a power of 250 horsepower. Regarding the battery, we should find a lithium-ion type accumulator housed in the floor with a capacity approaching 70 kWh. Autonomy should be of the order of 500 km. The vehicle should also be equipped with fast charging with the technology. 800 volts.
