Launched in 2018, the Cupra brand has achieved record sales volumes to date, and its models represent 14.2% of Seat’s sales figures.
If Cupra emancipated itself from Seat at the start of 2018, its sales figures and statistics are still closely linked to the historic Spanish manufacturer. In April 2021, Seat sold 47,200 vehicles worldwide, including 6,700 Cupra brand models, is a share of 14.2%.
By comparison, in 2020, Cupra sales only represented a 6.4% share of Seat sales, i.e. 27,390 Cupra units out of 427,035 Seat units in total. However, the economic crisis due to the coronavirus epidemic that occurred last year is not unrelated to these falling figures …
This increase in sales of the Cupra brand can be explained in particular by the success of the brand new SUV Cupra Formentor, launched at the end of 2020 and which was recently supplemented by the VZ5 version: a limited edition of 7,000 units with a five-cylinder engine of 390 horsepower, which makes it the most powerful model in the range Cupra. The hybrid versions of the Formentor should represent 50% of the model’s sales.
According to Wayne Griffiths, the boss of the two automobile firms in Martorell, Cupra is expected to reach its target of one billion euros in turnover. To contribute to its good health, the first 100% electric model from the Iberian sports firm will soon be added to its range: the Cupra Born.
