The road versions of these 3 cars that have marked the history of motorsport, and more particularly the 24 hours of Le Mans, are meeting on the Millbrook circuit in England for a summit meeting!
The 24H of Le Mans, a legendary race which saw the biggest duels in motorsport take place on its asphalt. Today, we look back on the rivalry that animated the end of the 90s between Mercedes, Porsche and McLaren. In order to add a little spice to the test, the GT1 category was born just before the start of the 21e century. It gave birth to cars that looked more like models that can be seen on the road rather than prototypes straight out of the wind tunnel. She especially saw the legendary McLaren F1, Porsche 911 GT1 and Mercedes CLK GTR.
We start with the McLaren, the oldest and the first to have won at Le Mans in 1995. It has gone the opposite way to that of its congeners by being first developed for the road before receiving a big spoiler and being sent to the circuit. Its conception was such that it really did not take much more for it to take all the cups as soon as it entered competition!
The McLaren F1 is an original BMW V12 that sends its 630 hp only to the rear wheels via a manual gearbox! With a weight of just over 1.1 tonnes, it shoots 0 to 100 in just 3.4 seconds. A figure already impressive today, but imagine when it was released in 1993! This 3-seater vehicle unleashes passions. One of the last copies to date to have been auctioned reached $ 19.8 million!
If the video covers practically only the English supercar, it’s because it’s a series of 3 episodes each dedicated to one of these legends. So we’ll meet very soon to talk about the second car of the trio: the Porsche 911 GT1!
