IKEA launches its DIY electric car!

IKEA makes us dream with a concept of electric car to assemble oneself… Not sure however to cross it so early on our roads!

The idea came from a young design student living in the United States. Ryan Schlotthauer imagined a electric vehicle concept who would be sold as a kit at IKEA, at an unbeatable price and in partnership with Renault.

The small electric car is called Renault High and has many assets to promote: who has never dreamed of assembling their own car?

A small city car kit sold at IKEA

For his concept, the young American student considered marketing in famous Swedish stores, with delivery as a kit in a small box.

So, like an IKEA piece of furniture, it will be necessary to assemble the 374 pieces which make up its set once the kit arrives at home! If the assembly is promised to be very simple, it will take a little time all the same to manage to assemble the whole car.

An atypical look for this concept

The Renault Höga adopts a rather particular look, which could make us think of the Citroën Ami released with us last year, which offers quite similar dimensions and style.

The concept measures 2,23 m de long and according to its creator, there would even be room to put A bike

while standing next to the driver.

Inside, the kit car is very basic. We find behind a basic steering wheel a very sober dashboard, devoid of any display: there is only a support for smartphone and tablet.

Another peculiarity, to get into the car you have to lift the entire front part, including the steering wheel!

A concept that is unlikely to see the light of day

Although this is a very well studied concept, it probably has very unlikely to see the light of day.

The reason is simple: its road homologation would be impossible. In fact, the safety standards currently in force would not allow a vehicle to be marketed without having first been assembled in a factory by qualified workers.

Similarly, due to its design, it is difficult to imagine the vehicle successfully passing the crash-tests Euro NCAP !

The young student still thought about the prices, which would amount to $ 6,500, or around € 5,230 with us.
