This American aviator decided to transform an old plane into a camper van!
In the world of motorhomes, the trend is for converted vans. But this American enthusiast decided to take the next step:converted plane !
Owner of a company specializing in the maintenance and restoration of airplanes, Round Engine Aero, he had before his eyes a 1943 DC-3 in very poor condition, when he decided to turn it into a motorhome. He therefore put all his aeronautical know-how at the service of this strange vehicle: the fuselage is cut, the wings removed, and the assembly is assembled to a truck chassis. With the objective of keeping as many parts as possible of the original DC-3. The ” Fabulous Flamingo ” was born !
The bet succeeded: even the fenders of the truck are made from the fairings of the engines. Inside, many cockpit buttons
still work and are used to activate various functions of the motorhome, such as air conditioning or headlights. The broom handle on the right is still present, even if the real steering wheel of the truck on the left is used to drive the whole. Behind, we discover beds, a lounge area, and a small kitchen. We are not quite at the level of standing of a real motorhome, but theatmosphere is unique !In short, a somewhat wacky project but probably fascinating for aviation enthusiasts! Sleeping and traveling in an old plane is not for everyone.
