Peugeot unveils a new version of its e-Expert electric utility van, running on hydrogen thanks to a rechargeable fuel cell.
The Peugeot e-Expert Hydrogen is one of the new utility vehicles fitted with a hydrogen fuel cell from the Stellantis group, alongside the Citroën Jumpy and Opel Vivaro. It is available in two lengths (“Standard” of 4.95 meters, and “Long” of 5.30 meters) which have the same characteristics as the Diesel and electric versions: up to 6.1 m³ of loading volume, 1,100 kg payload and 1,000 kg towing capacity.
It is distinguished on the outside by its specific “Hydrogen” acronyms, a hydrogen filling hatch on the left rear wing, an electrical charging hatch on the left front fender, not to mention a grille specific to this version, as well as a suspension raised by 40 mm.
It only takes three minutes to fill up with hydrogen, stored under high pressure at 700 bars in three tanks, and which feeds a Fuel cell proton exchange membrane 45 kW. With a full tank of 4.4 kg of hydrogen, theautonomy announced is more than 400 km according to the WLTP protocol.
The whole thing is completed by a lithium-ion battery of 10.5 kWh, making it possible to recover energy during braking and to drive up to 50 kilometers in 100% electric mode. It is possible to recharge it on a socket or a charging station, in order to run thanks to the electric energy when the hydrogen tanks are empty.
The new Peugeot e-Expert Hydrogen will be marketed at the end of 2021 professional customers, initially in France and Germany. It will be produced in France, in Valenciennes, then transformed in Germany in Rüsselsheim, in the new competence center dedicated to hydrogen at Stellantis.
