Tempted to fall for the “French luxury” promised by the DS 4 sedan? Pay attention to the basic finish, which forces you to equip it with sheet metal rims …
DS recently unveiled all the prices for its DS 4 sedan, and put its configurator online. The opportunity to discover a rather unexpected decision: on the entry-level finish, called Bastille, you will not have access alloy rims ! While this finish already climbs to 29 200 €, you will have to do “the old fashioned way”, with sheet metal rims and hubcaps… Even going through the options, impossible to override. In the DS configurator, sheet metal rims are also listed as “a strong point” …
To have access to classic alloy rims, you will have to pay € 1,000 more for the Bastille + finish.
A frankly absurd look, in contrast to the tense and modern lines of the DS 4. She who wants to play in the big leagues and tackle the German premium like the Mercedes Class A or the Audi A3. And these, in addition to being less expensive (€ 28,899 for the Mercedes, € 28,630 for the Audi), of course offer alloy rims as standard.
The fact remains that the Frenchwoman is, apart from this misconduct, better equipped entry level. We find for example the PureTech 130 under the hood, while the Germans have to be content with 110 hp blocks. The interior is also well-equipped as standard, with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10-inch central touchscreen.
A decision which is therefore all the more surprising. This is clearly a misstep for DS, which wants to display itself as French luxury. A luxury that rolls on sheet metal rims …
