For its part, the French firm, which has been suspected since the end of 2016, specifies in a press release that it remains “presumed innocent” and that it ” denies having committed any offense and reminds that its vehicles are not equipped with fraudulent software for pollution control devices ”.
For the moment, Renault will nevertheless have to “deposit a guarantee of 20 million euros, including 18 million euros for the possible payment of damages and fines, and give a bank guarantee in the amount of 60 million euros for compensate for any damage ”.
According to a judicial source, Volkswagen was placed “under judicial supervision with the obligation to post a bond in the amount of 10 million euros and the obligation to provide security in the form of a bank guarantee in the amount of 60 million euros. “.
Renault and Volkswagen are obviously not the only manufacturers to be investigated in France. Legal information also targets PSA and Fiat-Chrysler, gathered today in the Stellantis group.
As a reminder, in France, indictment is a preliminary step to a possible trial.
