Nissan has just started production of its new Qashqai at the plant in Sunderland, England. The first deliveries are expected this summer.
Let’s go for the new Qashqai! Four months after its presentation on February 18, the third generation of Japanese SUV finally comes to life. Production has just started at Nissan’s Sunderland plant, in England.
On this occasion, and to celebrate 35 years of production in the United Kingdom, Nissan is offering every schoolchild in the North East of England the opportunity to participate in a Nissan Skills Foundation event, the company’s program for to interest young people in careers in manufacturing and engineering.
“We know it’s been a tough year for young people, so we’re using the launch of this next-generation car to step up our efforts to inspire the next generation of talent in manufacturing. Said Alan Johnson, vice president in charge of production at Nissan UK.
Since its launch in 2007, the Qashqai has been locally produced over 3.5 million copies
. Across the Channel, the Qashqai thus broke record after record. It was the fastest British car to reach one million, two million, and then three million units built. Today the Qashqai represents one in five cars built in Great Britain.Nissan has invested £ 400m, or around 465 million euros, in the Sunderland plant to produce the third generation Qashqai. Mainly for a second extra-large press line, a waste recycling system and 117 new robots for the body shop.
Already available to order, the new Qashqai is displayed from € 28,990 (Mild Hybrid 140 hp Visia). The first deliveries are expected during the summer.
