Electric companies are surfing the recovery after the Covid: sales more than doubled in early 2021!
The automotive industry is slowly recovering from the Covid crisis. And this is doubly true for electric cars, which have seen impressive growth in recent months. According to the firm Inovev, sales of electric cars and plug-in hybrids have increased by 145% over the first three months of 2021. Or more than double!
In total, more than 1.1 million of these cars were sold over these three months, including around 760,000 electric cars. The latter therefore represent the majority of sales of electrified cars, far ahead of plug-in hybrids.
On the manufacturer side, Tesla remains the undisputed world leader, with 184,500 cars sold. Behind, China is clearly present with the GM-Wuling brand, in second position. BMW, Volkswagen, BYD, Mercedes and Volvo follow. And while Renault (28,551 units sold) was until then the French leader in electrics, the diamond brand has been doubled by Peugeot (28,778 sales), and falls to twelfth place worldwide.
The China took the opportunity to regain its position as the leading electric market, with almost 500,000 electric or plug-in hybrid cars sold. Europe follows closely, with 453,000 sales. Behind, the United States and Japan are very far.
