Audi unveils the first features of its new RS3. Still powered by 400 hp from the usual 2.5L TFSI 5-cylinder block, the compact will benefit from a unique Sport differential.
The teasing campaign continues for the new RS3. Only a few days after having published the first images of the machine, Audi reveals its first secrets.
The brand with the rings announces in particular that its future vitamin compact remains faithful to the traditional 2.5L TFSI 5-cylinder block. No electrification is therefore on the agenda. The power is always stalled at 400 ch but the couple now reach 500 Nm (available between 2250 and 5600 rpm), i.e. 20 Nm more than on the previous generation RS3.
In addition, the new Audi RS 3 is the first Audi vehicle to be equipped with the RS differential (rear sport differential with multi-disc clutch electronically controlled on each wheel output shaft). This new technology called “Torque Splitter” distributes the engine torque between each of the rear wheels in a fully variable manner. What to guarantee a maximum agility on the road.
“When driving dynamically, the RS differential increases torque to the outer rear wheel, which significantly reduces the tendency to understeer. », Explains Audi. “In left turns, it transmits torque to the right rear wheel, in right turns to the left rear wheel, and in a straight line to both wheels. This results in optimum stability and maximum agility, especially when cornering at high speed. », Adds the brand.
This novelty also allows Audi to announce 7 driving modes, including two new specific ones to the Audi RS3: a circuit mode and a mode… drift (mode RS Torque Rear) !
The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is still there, while Pirelli P Zero “Trofeo R” semi-slick tires are available as an option.
Result, performance side, Audi promises a 0 to 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds, or 0.3 seconds faster than before. The maximum speed capped at 250 km / h. Or 280 as an option, or even 290 with the RS Dynamic package and ceramic brakes.
Declined in Sportback and sedan versions, the new Audi RS3 should be presented during the month of July.
