The market share of electric cars continues to explode, so much so that they should represent the majority of sales in Europe by 2028.
At the start of 2021, electric and plug-in hybrid cars represented 14% of sales in France. But according to a study by Ernst & Young, sales of electric cars alone will overtake the thermal as a whole from 2028 in Europe !
Europe will, according to the firm, be the market leader in electric vehicles for a few years. But in 10 years, in 2031, China will take over. In 2033, sales in this country will be mainly electric, while we will have to wait until 2036 for this to be the case in the United States as well. The country having fallen behind after the passage of the Trump administration.
Also according to this study, the transition to a majority of electrical salesin the world will be in 2033. In other words in 12 years. It is especially 5 years earlier than what the cabinet had previously planned. The reasons: restrictions that are accelerating, an increasingly attractive offer, and a new generation of buyers more inclined to turn to electricity.
Further into the future, the firm predicts that sales of combustion vehicles will only represent 1% of sales in 2045, in 24 years. Not so surprising, when we take a look at the many restrictions that will start to accumulate in Europe and the rest of the world.
