What if your next campervan looked like two drops of water like the famous English taxi? This is the project of LEVC, which is already producing the modern version of the London taxi.
If the name of LEVC doesn’t ring a bell, you probably know his star car: the new London taxis ! LEVC, or “London Electric Vehicle Company”, is a company owned by the Chinese Geely. As its name suggests, it specializes in the manufacture of the most famous taxis, but has been trying for a few months to diversify.
This diversification first came with the presentation of a utility, the VN5. He resumed the look of the london taxi, but also his technique. It is therefore a hybrid, where an electric motor takes the role of the main propulsion. The latter is reinforced by a heat engine responsible for filling the battery. In 100% electric mode, it is capable ofa range of around a hundred kilometers. A figure that climbs to around 490 km when the heat engine starts up.
To take advantage of the boom in the campervan and campervan sector, LEVC has decided to launch its motorhome version of the VN5: the e-Camper. It uses the technique and the well-recognizable style of the taxi and the utility vehicle, for similar autonomy.
Inside, we find everything that makes the success of converted vans. The last row of seats turns into lit double, while the pop-up roof accommodates another bed for two. A small kitchen area has been designed, and the front seats swivel to be placed around a retractable table. Small, but there is everything you need for a van like this. And thanks to the London taxi technique, LEVC announces a record turning radius for easy maneuvering around town.
The catch? This is the price: 73 000 €, without options and especially without VAT… So count nearly 100,000 € for this small converted van. It may be a hybrid, but it is much more expensive than the competition. For comparison, an established benchmark like the Volkswagen California 6.1 starts at 62 000 € for a version with pop-up roof, with VAT included. That’s almost € 40,000 less!
