Volkswagen is currently rolling out its first remote update to its ID range, which concerns the improvement of certain vehicle functions.
Volkswagen will make the first wireless update available to its “ID” models this month. And more precisely on theID.3.
Initially, only the members of the « First Moovers Club », that is, the first ID.3 customers will receive the first update delivered by Volkswagen “over the air” before the end of July.
According to the boss of the brand, Ralf Brandstätter, Volkswagen is therefore “once again at the head of the movement”. His American rival Tesla, which has been marketing electric cars for years, is however years ahead of wireless updates. In the future, Volkswagen’s electric cars will be equipped with improved software every twelve weeks.
Subsequently, the other clients ID.3 as well as the pilots of ID.4 and ID.4.GTX will also receive the new software via wireless transmission.
On the program of the update,we find the following elements:
Regarding the download of the update, it is completely transparent and is done automatically while driving, via the 4G network.
The installation is done however under the driver’s approval, and requires the car to come to a complete stop. Allow a certain time, between 1 and 3 hours.
In the future, Volkswagen plans even more for its customers: they will be able to add the desired functions according to their needs through over-the-air updates. The brand expects this to lead to a new business model, with changed habits for consumers.
