In Australia, a driver is arrested by the police for speeding and announces that he thought he was on a racetrack.
In Australia, a BMW 3 Series driver was pulled over by police for speeding. While the radar had picked up a speed almost twice that allowed, the “pilot” had a quite astonishing justification. He told the policeman controlling him that he stupidly thought he was on a circuit!
If this sounds totally ubiquitous, he is not totally wrong. Indeed, he was actually driving on the track of the Mount Panorama circuit. Located in the small town of Bathurst in New South Wales, hosts annual races such as the Bathurst 1000 and the Bathurst 12 hrs.
But if the confusion is possible, it is because this track is an urban circuit. Obviously, the roads are then closed to the public to let the drivers drive safely. Normally, the speed is limited to 60 km / h.
The driver, aboard a BMW 320i, was checked at 119 km / h in one of the straight lines of the circuit. Intercepted by the police, he was fined 1,600 €. This corresponds to exceeding the authorized limit by 45 km / h. 6 points were also withdrawn from his license (which, as in France, has 12) and a 6 month driving ban with immediate effect was imposed. The license plates were seized for a period of 3 months.
