In California, a motorist who could not do without a WiFi connection installed a Starlink antenna on the hood of his Prius.
On the road, the police are regularly confronted with wacky tinkering carried out on the cars. But the Highway Patrol officer in California couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw this Toyota Prius with a satellite dish on the hood.
Obviously, the police stopped the driver. The pictures show a Starlink satellite antenna, an internet access system developed by Elon Musk, hanging from the hood of the hybrid car. It is connected to the passenger compartment by a cable to provide an internet connection to passengers.
The Facebook account from which the photos come to us also indicates the dialogue between the officer and the driver. The policeman thus declared “Sir, I arrested you today for that visual obstruction on your hood. Doesn’t it block your view while driving? “. What the driver replied to: “Only when I make right turns”. an answer which has the merit of being honest but which obviously did not convince the police officer.
The driver subsequently explained that he absolutely need a WiFi connection in order to manage your business remotely. A clever and useful device when the car is parked but considerably obstructing the view when driving.
Starlink, which depends on SpaceX, is not allowed to mount terminals on moving vehicles. The American company is however in the test phase. However, it is more intended for use in commercial ships, transport trucks or even passenger planes. Passenger cars are not yet within its scope.
