This summer, a concept car will be up for auction: this 2004 Ford Shelby Cobra Concept was designed by Ford, with the participation of Carroll Shelby.
It is a unique copy which will be put on sale by the Mecum Auctions house in Monterey, from August 12 to 14, 2021, on the sidelines of the Pebble Beach elegance competition: better known under the code name “Daisy”, this Ford Shelby Cobra Concept is an exclusive model approved for the road.
Its history dates back to Pebble Beach in August 2003, when Carroll Shelby and Chris Theodore announced that “ Ford and Shelby join forces to develop high-performance vehicles “. The following year, the Ford Shelby Cobra Concept saw the light of day and foreshadowed a production model planned for 2007, which, unfortunately, never found its way to production due to the crisis.
Ford Shelby Cobra Concept (2004): a 605 horsepower V10
The Ford Shelby Cobra Concept is a two-seater roadster, resting on an all-aluminum chassis and featuring a double-walled fiberglass bodywork, with a foam core for rigidity. It is driven by a motor 6.4-liter aluminum V10 with 40 valves, developing no less than 605 horsepower, and shares several elements with the 2005 Ford GT, such as its rear-mounted 6-speed manual transmission, or its independent suspensions.
This unique model was presented at many events and auto shows at the time, and was even the star of the movie “xXx²: The Next Level” at the hands of rapper Ice Cube. It belonged to Chris Theodore, and was fully restored with a replacement of all fluids, and featuring a new dual-disc clutch, flywheel, new wiring harness, new spark plugs and a new muffler.
“Daisy” will be delivered to its future owner with a Certificate of Authenticity provided by Ford Motor Company, a detailed book presenting the project, as well as numerous photos taken during its design and development with Carroll Shelby, as well as a certificate provided by Shelby Registry. No estimate of its price has been provided by Mecum Auctions.
