July 16-18 traffic forecast

From July 16 to 18, the second weekend of school holidays, traffic will be heavy on the vacation route. Discover all the traffic forecasts of Bison Futé.

The holidays continue in France. And on this second weekend of school holidays, departures will intensify. For Smart Bison, traffic will be heavy from July 16 to 18 on most major routes to the south and coastal areas. To make matters worse, more and more holidaymakers from Northern Europe will be traveling to France during their own country’s school holidays.

Smart bison raises the red flag

Friday July 16, in the direction of departures, significant flows of vehicles and congestion on major motorways are expected. More particularly on the A7, A8 and A9 motorways towards the Mediterranean. Traffic difficulties are expected in urban areas between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. where the departures of holidaymakers will be added to the usual trips. In Île-de-France, the first slowdowns will be recorded at the end of the morning. In particular on the A6b motorway and the ring roads (Boulevard Périphérique and A86) which converge on the A6 and A10 motorways. These difficulties will be reinforced in the middle of the afternoon by the flow of work-home journeys. Traffic will remain very heavy until late in the evening. Also on the A13 motorway, traffic difficulties could be recorded from mid-afternoon. They could still be present until late in the evening.

Saturday July 17, Bison Futé sees RED throughout the country. Traffic difficulties will be significant on all major routes in the country. Departures on vacation will mainly take place in the morning until mid-afternoon. Slowdowns and traffic jams are expected. In particular in the Massif Central on the A20 and A71 motorways, in the Rhône valley on the A7 motorway, then on the A8 and A9 motorways along the Mediterranean. In the direction of returns, many trips are expected throughout the country but the difficulties should be moderate.

Sunday July 18, in the direction of departures, the main difficulties are expected in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in particular on the A7 and A43 motorways and along the Mediterranean on the A8 motorway.

In the direction of departures

  • Friday July 16 is classified ORANGE at the national level
  • Saturday July 17 is classified RED at the national level
  • Sunday July 18 is classified GREEN at the national level and ORANGE in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and on the Mediterranean arc.

In the direction of returns

  • Friday July 16 is classified at the national level GREEN
  • Saturday July 17 is classified ORANGE at the national level
  • Sunday July 18 is classified GREEN at the national level

Good advice from Bison Futé

In the direction of the departures, to avoid as much as possible encountering difficulties on the road, Bison Futé therefore advises, Friday July 16, to leave and cross the Ile-de-France before 12 noon and the big cities between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. It is also recommended to avoid the A7 motorway between Valence and Orange from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the A9 motorway between Nîmes and Montpellier from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the A43 motorway between Lyon and Chambéry from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Access to the Mont-Blanc tunnel (N205) will be dense from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. (waiting over 30 min) and very dense from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (waiting over 1 hour).

Watch out for Saturday July 17

Saturday July 17th, Bison Futé advises to leave Ile-de-France before 8 a.m. and large cities before 9 a.m. Also avoid the A10 motorway between Orléans and Bordeaux from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the A6 motorway between Mâcon and Lyon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the A7 motorway between Lyon and Orange from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the A8 motorway between Aix-en- Provence and Nice from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the A9 motorway between Orange and Montpellier from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the A71 motorway between Orléans and Bourges from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., the A20 motorway between Limoges and Brive-la-Gaillarde from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. , the A61 motorway between Toulouse and Narbonne from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the A43 motorway between Lyon and Chambéry from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Access to Italy via the Mont-Blanc tunnel (N205) will be dense from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (wait longer than 30 min).

In the return direction, join or cross the Île-de-France before 2 p.m., avoid the A7 motorway between Orange and Lyon from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the A8 motorway between Nice and Aix-en-Provence from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Mont-Blanc tunnel (N205) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday July 18, in the direction of departures, it is advisable to avoid the A7 motorway between Lyon and Marseille from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the A8 motorway between Aix-en-Provence and Italy from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the A43 motorway between Lyon and Chambéry from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
