The new Opel Astra L should not be available in a sporty version. This did not prevent a designer from imagining an Astra GSi!
The new sixth-generation Opel Astra has just been unveiled: it is based on the latest evolution of the EMP2 platform, which it shares with the all new Peugeot 308 and DS 4. In addition to the platform, the German compact borrows to its French cousins their petrol and Diesel engines, and for the first time in the history of the Astra, plug-in hybrid engines will also be on the program.
On the other hand, as for the 308 which abandons its GTi version, there is very little chance that a sports version of the new Opel Astra will be marketed. That didn’t stop Hungarian car designer X-Tomi from imagining a hypothetical Opel Astra GSi.
Aesthetically, X-Tomi imagined a very aggressive Astra GSi, with a bright red tint contrasting with a black hood : a characteristic feature of the German brand, which can be found for example on the new Opel Mokka. A specific body kitalso makes its appearance, with a redesigned front fascia accompanied by side air intakes, a front spoiler, fender and sill extensions, as well as a rear spoiler. Imposing rims, borrowed from the Opel Insignia GSi, complete the sporty endowment of the model.
Under the hood, one could even imagine the presence of a plug-in hybrid engine, sportier than the 225 horsepower version announced by the firm at the Blitz … Indeed, within the Stellantis group, more powerful versions of 300 horsepower or 360 horsepower exist: we find the latter on the new 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered for example, coupled to an all-wheel drive.
