Older Alfa Romeos like this 166 are not necessarily known for their reliability. But when they work, they are capable of nice little performances.
The Alfa Romeo 166 was launched in 1998 to compete with the big German road cars like the Mercedes Class E, the Audi A6 or the BMW 5 Series. At the top of the range, there was an atmospheric 3.0 V6. With its 226 hp, it was able to reach 100 km / h in just under 8 seconds and narrowly exceed 240 km / h. Good performance for a car over 20 years old.
We must also recognize that this 6 cylinder sounded masterfully well… When it was able to start. Indeed, the Alfa from this era are not known to be the most reliable cars in the world. Perhaps it is this aspect which pushed the Italian brand to stop the 166 after only a generation and just under 10 years of career.
Still, it is still possible to find copies in good condition, even in very good condition! It only takes 8 seconds for this 166 to reach 100 km / h, a time not far from its performance announced at the time. And that’s not all since it is still capable of reaching its advertised top speed of 240 km / h! Granted, it takes a while, but it feels good to hear this beautiful Italian girl stretch her pistons on the Autobahn.
