A dump truck moved the deck of a bridge after hitting it. The traffic is completely interrupted and the bridge will have to be destroyed!
In Georgia, United States, traffic had to be stopped and a section of highway completely closed to the public. The reason ? A moving truck with its tipper raised crashed into a highway bridge. The violence of the shock displaced the bridge by more than 1.80 m!
As can be seen from the photos taken by the organization that manages traffic and construction in the region, the bridge is no longer aligned with the rout at alle. A representative of Georgia DOT said that many engineers in the group had never seen such an accident occur and engender such a movement of the bridge.
Luckily, the accident happened at night with very little traffic and a no injuries are to be deplored.
After such a shaking of the apron, it is obvious that the bridge is no longer secure, this is why the circulation has naturally been interrupted. Shortly after the accident, demolition work has started before a reconstruction which should take place as quickly as possible.
Obviously, such unscheduled work causes major traffic disruptions. The inconvenience caused is all the more important as this Interstate-76 is a main axis between Atlanta and the Atlantic coast.
According to theAtlanta Journal-Constitution, this section sees 21,000 vehicles pass per day. Alternative routes were quickly put in place and add between 16 and 38 km depending on the route. The time lost is all the more important as these alternative routes do not use the motorway and should cause a lot of traffic jams.
