Lamborghini must reduce its CO2 emissions. No choice, the replacement for the Huracan will be a hybrid …
The pressure is mounting for manufacturers to reduce their CO2 emissions. And even the smallest of them, like Lamborghini, are concerned. So what do you do when your brand is synonymous with V12 and V10 with a fiery character ? No question of going to all electric, or even to mount a turbo on a small six-cylinder… The only remaining solution is thus the hybridization.
As we already know, the replacement for the Aventador will be hybrid, but will keep its V12. But in an interview with the British CoachLamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann has announced that the brand will cut emissions by 50% by 2025. However, only one Aventador hybrid will not suffice. Winkelmann also clarified that between 2023 and 2024, the entire Lamborghini range will be hybrid.
Good thing, this is the date on which the replacement of the Hurricane should be disclosed. It will therefore be hybrid, but will it keep its V10? Nothing is less certain: for Winkelmann, “it’s a little too early to talk about that”. Not a good sign for V10 fans…
The rest of the Lamborghini supercar competition has already taken the plunge. At the house of Ferrari, the new 296 GTB is equipped with a V6 biturbo hybride, and it’s the same with McLaren with the Artura. We can therefore imagine the Huracan following the same path, with at least a turbo V8 and a hybrid system.
