New registrations of electric cars have doubled in one year in Europe! Proof that electric cars are on the rise.
In the second quarter, the share of purely electric cars in new registrations in the EU reached 7.5%. In the meantime, the share of combustion engines has fallen significantly.
The share of fully electric cars in new registrations in the EU doubled in one year. While in the second quarter of last year, only 3.5% of newly registered cars in Europe were powered by batteries, this year, this figure has already reached 7.5% according to the association of European manufacturers Acea.
At the same time, the market share of gasoline and diesel vehicles declined. Together, these two forms of propulsion accounted for around 62% of new registrations in the second quarter, up from more than 80% in the same period last year.
The hybrid cars are also increasingly in demand: their share of new registrations in the EU has now reached almost 20%.
Overall, the European automotive market continues to recover from the Covid-19 crisis.
Whatever the type of engine, the new registrations generally increased significantly between April and the end of June compared to the weak quarter of the previous year.
But the number of new electric vehicle registrations is growing much faster, with mostly triple-digit growth rates. On the other hand, the new registrations of gasoline cars only increased by 25% and diesel just under 8% in one year.
