Opel, recently integrated into the PSA group which has become Stellantis, has announced its goal of becoming 100% electric from 2028. But that will not prevent the lightning brand from launching many new products in the next 7 years, whether electric. or not. A brief overview of main new developments !

2021: the new Astra and the restyled Grandland land

Unveiled just a few days ago, the compact Astra sedan is one of the stars of the year. By taking the platform of the new Peugeot 308, it adopts drawn and elegant lines, and especially the famous front of the brand, the sight. The interior is full of technology, with two large screens, and a multitude of driving aids. For the first time, the Astra is electrified, and benefits from plug-in hybrid engines of the new 308, which can go up to 225 hp!

For its part, the Grandland SUV, Peugeot 3008’s technical cousin, recently went through the restyling box. By losing the “X” of his name, he won the front viewfinder, and a facelift inside. The dashboard is completely revised and is inspired by that of the new Mokka. On the other hand, the engines do not change.

2022: Opel Astra Sports Tourer and restyled Corsa

Launched in 2019, the Opel Corsa will celebrate its 3rd anniversary next year. It makes sense, then, to expect one restyling in order. Especially since the city car remains one of the last models of the brand not to have yet received the Vizor and the new house look. First car designed in collaboration between Peugeot and Opel after the integration of the German into what was then the PSA group, the Corsa should follow the technical developments of its French cousin, the Peugeot 208. In particular, we expect a more muscular electric version. What to revive the OPC coat of arms in 100% electric?

For its part, the recently unveiled Astra should win a station wagon version from 2022, logically named Astra Sports Tourer. Like the Peugeot 308 SW, it should be around thirty centimeters longer than the sedan version. In addition to a more generous trunk, passengers will be able to enjoy a more habitable space thanks to a extended wheelbase.

2024: a redesigned and electric Insignia?

Introduced in 2017, the Insignia family sedan is struggling to find its audience. Normal: the segment is losing momentum, and the Opel is not the most attractive among the offers available. The model should therefore disappear at the end of his career, in 2023 or 2024. But it could then be reinventing as an electric SUV !

Indeed, the Stellantis group has just announced the development of several electric platforms, including the medium-sized one, STLA Medium, seems perfectly suited to a large SUV. We also know that the next Peugeot 3008 should arrive around this date, with a 100% electric version him too. Opel could therefore develop its own version of the electric SUV, which would then take the name of the defunct sedan.

2025: the return of the Opel Manta!

To top off his recent announcements of electrical transformation, Opel has promised the return of a legend in 2025: the Manta! But fans of the 1970s little coupe don’t have false hopes: the Manta of the future should be a small electric crossover. The final form of the future Manta remains hypothetical for the moment: we will probably have to wait for a concept car in the coming years to find out more.
