This 1979 Porsche 928, which will be up for auction next month, was driven by Tom Cruise in the movie Risky Business.
The Porsche 928 is one of the less popular models from the Stuttgart firm, which has always remained in the shadow of the famous 911. However, the German coupe played an important role in the film. Risky Business from 1983, which revealed the actor Tom Cruise in the public eye: the car driven by the American actor will soon be for sale, at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson auction, to be held in Houston, Texas.
The car was used for the majority of the scenes in the film in which it appears, including during the famous chase, although in total the film crews had planned three models. According to producer Jon Avnet, Tom Cruise even learned to drive a manual gearbox with this car! It was then exhibited in museums, before being sold to a collector, who has it. kept in an air-conditioned warehouse.
The car still has the gold paint it sported in the movie, and this one, despite being 42 years old, is still in excellent condition, as well as its distinctive design rims. The interior is also in superb condition, and is fitted with brown leather upholstery, paired with matching carpets. The car also bears the autographs of the film’s main actors, and is accompanied by detailed documentation and photos from the shoot.
Under the hood, the Porsche 928 has a 4.5 liter V8 engine, developing a power of 222 horses for 344 Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The 0 to 100 km / h is completed in 6.8 seconds, for a top speed of 230 km / h.
This Porsche 928 star of the big screen will soon be on sale, without reserve price, by Barrett-Jackson at their Houston, TX sale September 16-18, 2021.
