It’s time for the electric offensive at Stellantis! The group has unveiled a few avenues for the electrification of its premium brands. We tell you everything.
Like most manufacturers, Stellantis recently announced its ambitions for the electrical transition which is fast approaching. The general announcement had already caused a stir when the group before published slogans for each of its brands, early July: “Alfa e-Romeo”, “warming people, not the planet”, etc. But this week, the group took advantage of the announcement of its results to clarify its plan a little. In particular, the strategy ofelectrification of premium brands of the group. We take stock!
For the French premium brand of Stellantis, the transition will be relatively smooth. DS has been expanding its lineup considerably in recent months, with the arrival of the DS 9 sedan and the compact DS 4. Both will be available as plug-in hybrids, but not as 100% electric. On the other hand, from 2024, each new product presented by the brand will be electric. The DS 3, DS 4, DS 7 and DS 9 will continue their life cycle well with current engines, as long as the regulations allow.
The range will therefore gradually switch to all-electric as each model is renewed.
For Alfa Romeo, the deadline is later. But it is also stricter. Instead of gradually replacing its range as at DS, Alfa will switch to 100% electric from 2027. Gone are therefore the fiery V6s that made the reputation of the Italian brand, not even in plug-in hybrid. Even if the brand will ultimately not be called Alfa e-Romeo, it will therefore have changed a lot by then …
Bloodless for a few years, Lancia currently only sells the Ypsilon compact, and only in Italy. But the Stellantis group has ambitions for the brand. Carlos Tavares has confirmed several new features, the first to fall around 2023. A possible replacement for Ypsilon therefore, which is already getting old.
However, the electrification schedule will be gradual. All models will be at least hybrid from 2024 (easy when the range includes one or two models). From 2026, each new model will only be available 100% electric.
Without there being any specific announcements for Maserati, we already know some details of the electric transition of the brand. The next GranTurismo will be electric, the MC20 supercar will also have a 100% electric version, just like the future Grecale SUV. In short, the brand with the trident already has its fingers in the grip.
