what we already know

It’s almost time for a revolution for the Renault Mégane! We take stock of the information that has already filtered through the next generation 100% electric.

Renault is preparing a revolution for its Megan ! The compact sedan will indeed change format, and above all switch to 100% electric. It also changes its name slightly, and will now be called Mégane E-Tech Electric, or MeganE if you want to make it shorter (pronounce “Megane-i”).

To prepare the ground and ensure the smooth transition, Renault let filter some information sparingly. We take stock of what we already know about the future French electric sedan.

A new format for the Renault MéganE

Gone is the look of a compact sedan, the Mégane will now be a small crossover. Small, because the Mégane will shrink in length on this next generation: with approximately 4,20 m de long, or about fifteen centimeters less than the current one. But the livability and the trunk should remain comparable, thanks to the compactness of the electrical system compared to a heat engine.

Suddenly, the look will completely change. Inspired by the concept Mégane eVision, this new generation will adopt a full grille, with very fine optics framing the new neo-retro logo of the brand.

New electric Renault Mégane E-Tech: power and range

The future electric Renault Mégane will be the first Renault to be based on the very new CMF-EV platform. This structure already equips the Nissan Ariya, also electric. On release, the sedan will be equipped with a 217 hp electric motor

on the front wheels. Its 60 kWh battery allows it to WLTP range announced at 450 km.

Renault Mégane electric: what price?

The car is not yet presented, Renault has obviously not communicated on its prices to come. On the other hand, we can expect a price flirting with € 40,000 : this is the price of the current generation in plug-in hybrid version. This is much more expensive than the entry price of the current thermal Mégane, available from € 24,700. But we know that electricity is expensive. Still, we are not immune to a surprise from the Losange …

The new electric Mégane E-Tech will be presented at the Munich show, next September 6. But with a little luck, you will be able to cross her on the road of the holidays: 30 copies of pre-production camouflaged are already circulating. It will then be produced in the Douai plant in the North, which will soon host a battery manufacturing plant.

The opening to order should take place in early 2022.
