According to a recent survey, 9 out of 10 active French people want to reduce the environmental impact of their trips.
Ipsos unveiled the results of a survey, carried out for Vinci Autoroutes among 4,000 people, on the modes of travel of the French. While 87% of working people have kept the same means of transport as before the health crisis, with a majority (65%) preferring a private car to go to work, they are increasingly aware of impacts of their movements on the environment.
Indeed, 90% of French people want to reduce the carbon footprint of their trips, and are more motivated than ever: more than 1 in 2 working people give themselves less than 5 years to use means of transport that pollute less (55%). To do this, the preferred solutions are the purchase of an electric or hybrid car (35%), hydrogen (30%), but also walking or cycling (34%). The adoption of eco-driving is also a solution considered by 22% of respondents.
Of course, this enthusiasm for the electric car has its limits, and certain measures would be able to accelerate this energy transition. First of all, the price of an electric car remains a barrier to buying : 73% of respondents say that a much larger purchase bonus would encourage them more. Charging infrastructures are also called into question: 68% say that a multiplication of terminals would encourage them more to take the plunge.
The fear of the “dry” blackout is still present in the minds: 64% of respondents believe that free assistance in the event of a breakdown would encourage them to switch to electric. Finally, 61% would like more free parking spaces for electric vehicles in their city.
Regarding shared mobility, only 3% of respondents practice carpooling or carsharing. A carpooling offer with reserved lanes on the motorway would interest 42% of them, while a regular carpooling offer with a short waiting time would be appreciated by 43% of respondents.
