the Japanese coupe goes biturbo!

Here is the new sporty model of the Nissan range: the Z! A sports coupe that replaces the 370Z but will not be available in France …

Six generations later, Nissan is still pursuing its quest for sportiness with the new Z. Gone are the names linked to the engine capacity, but only one letter announcing the color. On the menu, 400 ch delivered on the rear wheels with the possibility of choosing a traditional manual gearbox. Driving pleasure and that’s it!

Here are 5 things to know about the sportswoman with the video below:

The big Z family

The Z line is not new. It appeared in 1969 with the Fairlady Z (name given to these models in Japan) which will also take the name 240Z in Europe under the badge … Datsun, like all vintage Nissan imported from their land. Two other engines will follow with the 260Z and 280Z. Six cylinders in line at the front, rear-wheel drive, all the ingredients were already there.

Three other generations, a little more gentrified, will follow until the famous 350Z in 2003, renowned for its Atmospheric V6 and its propensity to slide in roundabouts. His replacement, the 370Z, saw its production stop last year.

Performance on the rise

The new coupé juggles between reminders of the past and technological modernity. And the biggest change concerns the engine. Exit the atmospheric V6, say hello to supercharging with a new V6 3.0 biturbo of 400 ch and 475 Nm, available from 1,650 rpm. This block taken from theInfiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 can be combined with a nine-speed automatic gearbox and paddle shifters, or a good old six-speed manual gearbox. The latter even has a mode launch control functional !

Chassis side, the Japanese takes the basics of the 370Z with improved body rigidity, new power steering and wider front tires. The damping has also been revised with suspensions specific to this model. The rest of the performances have not yet been announced …

Look d’enfer

The exterior of the Nissan Z takes several elements of the past and modernizes them. The front light signature evokes the headlights of the 240ZG. The grille, wide and gaping, underlines the continuity with the 370Z. The rear lights are also reminiscent of the 300ZX while the elusive roof line demonstrates his family membership.

The interior is not to be outdone with the presence of a fully customizable 12.3 ″ digital instrumentation. This supplements the information on the 8 ″ center display featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The three pressure gauges on the dashboard, essential on a Japanese style Fast and Furious, will not leave the fans indifferent. Above all, the Z still has a real handbrake!

No Z in Europe …

Unfortunately for us, Nissan did not plan to import this model on the old Continent. Pollution standards would no longer allow this, especially in France with an increasingly harsh ecological penalty. Never mind, the Japanese and American markets will benefit from two trim levels: Sport and Performance. The last one also has a front blade and a larger rear spoiler, in addition to 19 ″ rims, electric and heated leather seats as well as a larger screen (9 ″).

Finally, a special series Proto Spec, limited to 240 copies, takes again the hue and the color reminders of the model presented a few months ago.

No prices announced yet but the coupe should be below the Toyota Supra and the BMW Z4. Arrival expected in summer 2022 for the first pre-orders.
