Kia Soul EV Boardmasters Edition: ready for adventure

On the occasion of the Boardmasters 2021 festival, Kia transformed an e-Soul into an all-terrain concept designed for lovers of surfing and outdoor recreation.

The Boardmasters Festival, which mixes surfing competitions and musical concerts, was held last week on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall, in the south-west of England. On this occasion, the Korean manufacturer was present as an official partner, the opportunity to unveil a brand new concept car to the public: the Kia Soul EV Boardmasters Edition.

The model is based on a Kia Soul EV (called e-Soul in our regions), and highlights its sustainable qualities and the reduction of its impact on the environment. It is equipped with the original 201 horsepower electric motor, associated with a 64 kWh battery, while endowing itself with unique features made especially for lovers of surfing and outdoor recreation.

Kia Soul EV Boardmasters Edition: saved from scrapping

This project was accomplished by salvaging a pre-production e-Soul, which was intended for scrap. This is the second time that Kia “recycles” a prototype vehicle into a concept car: the previous attempt of its kind was the Kia Stinger GT 420, which we found a few weeks ago at the Festival. of Speed from Goodwood.

Here, the Korean crossover offered itself a all-terrain look even more extreme, with 16-inch bright white steel rims fitted with thick 265/75 R16 Maxxis Bighorn sand tires, used in rallycross competitions and rally-raids. New suspensions have been added in order to double the ground clearance

, while the tracks have been widened by 110 mm at the front and 115 mm at the rear.

There is also a tubular gallery steel roof, which can accommodate two surfboards, completed by two powerful LED spotlights Lazer ST4 Evolution, as well as a solar panel to power a mini-fridge as well as other on-board devices, without reducing the battery life of the vehicle.

Inside, the rear seat has been removed to make room for a huge trunk covered with spruce wood planks painted white. When opening the tailgate, surfers will find a practical retractable bench designed in recycled wood, completed by racks that can accommodate wetsuits or beach towels.

This Kia Soul EV Boardmasters Edition concept was presented to the public from August 11 to 15, at a Kia booth inviting festival visitors to surf, yoga and fitness exercises.
