Like Audi and BMW, Mercedes is withdrawing from Formula E!

Mercedes will leave Formula E at the end of the 2022 season. The German car manufacturer formalized its withdrawal on Wednesday just after its victory.

Another stable less for the Formulas E next season. Mercedes announced that she will no longer participate in the Formula Electric World Championship from the end of the next season, when she just won the title last Sunday in Berlin.

Mercedes’ decision to leave Formula E comes as new single-seaters, the ” GEN3 », Cars of 3rd generation more powerful, will be introduced from the 2023 edition, and require significant investments for the manufacturers involved.

The German firm, also present and at the top of Formula 1, wants to focus on this segment for the moment: “The group will focus its activities in motorsports on Formula 1, reinforcing the status of this discipline as the best laboratory for developing and testing sustainable and efficient technologies in the future. ” indicated the mark to the star.

As a reminder, Mercedes has won all the driver’s and manufacturer’s titles since 2014, thanks in particular to the Briton Lewis Hamilton

, in hybrid engine single-seaters.

New setback for Formula E competition

For the 100% electric competition inaugurated in 2014, the withdrawal of Mercedes is another setback. Audi and BMW had already said their farewells at the end of last season. In the future, the resources of the Formula E project will be allocated to the electrification of the car brand to the star which wants to leave the thermal before the end of the decade. .

For Toto Wolff, the manufacturer’s motorsport manager, this latest success in the world championship will remain “a historic milestone in the long history of Mercedes-Benz”. ” Now we’re going to do everything in our power to make sure we complete our Formula E adventure in Season 8.“, Added the Austrian.
