This restomod project of a classic Land Rover Defender signed Himalaya is equipped with a supercharged V8 of 650 horsepower!
Himalaya is an American company, based near Charleston, South Carolina, specializing in Land Rover model restomods. This new project, called Himalaya Hue 166 with reference to the registration of the very first Land Rover Series I, is a restomod of a Land Rover Defender 110, inspired by the first version from 1948.
Like the other Himalayan productions, the model is adorned with modern equipment and parts, improving the performance, handling and comfort of the model. There are discreet elements on the outside, like new 18-inch rims as well as fender wideners, all in a color matched to that of the body: the green “Grasmere Green” of yesteryear, contrasting with a white roof.
Inside, there are heated seats with stitched beige fabric upholstery, as well as a JVC touchscreen infotainment system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Dual-zone air conditioning and a premium audio system complete this resolutely modern endowment.
But the most significant changes are not visible at first glance: indeed, under the hood hides a supercharged LT4 V8 engine borrowed from a Chevrolet Corvette, and which here develops the trifle of 650 horsepower, transmitted to the four-wheel drive via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The chassis received Dynatrac axles, coil spring suspension, as well as Brembo disc brakes. For comparison, the Defender 110 at the time also had a V8 engine, but only 134 horsepower!
The Himalayan Hue 166 is now available for $ 300,000, the equivalent of about 253.000 euros. A price justified by the colossal amount of work done, as well as the four years of development of the model at Himalaya.
