a Le Mans prototype is for sale!

Canepa, specialist in racing and collector cars, offered this example of the R15 TDI for sale. A racing Audi powered by a huge diesel engine!

Who has never dreamed of owning a Le Mans prototype in their garage? In any case, this is what offers Hemp, specialist in the restoration and sale of exceptional vehicles. Without any announced price, the company hopes to attract fans since this model of R15 TDI is the only one in the hands of a private owner.

Audi, master of competition

From 2006 to 2014, the team Audi Sport has won eight times at Le Mans. And you have in front of you, the only car not to have won when it was launched in 2009, no luck! It is Peugeot with his 908 which had won the favor of the French public. Never mind, this R15 V10 TDI is a real automotive nugget. It will also benefit from several developments in the following years.

After several victories with the R8 (racing) in the early 2000s, Audi launched a new challenge. It thus happens in 2006 on the circuit of the Sarthe with a diesel engine prototype: the R10 TDI. It will win the three consecutive editions until 2008, just that. Imagine the technological and engineering challenge required for such a feat. It is on these solid foundations that the Ingolstadt firm will launch its new R15 model in the 2009 season.

A mixed season 2009

This copy of R15 TDI is the first chassis number (T 101

). After a few laps at the end of 2008, the proto was finally launched into competition at the time of 12 Hours of Sebring. The crew of Mike Rockenfeller, Marco Werner and Lucas Luhr will finish in an encouraging third place. The following 24 Hours of Le Mans, a few weeks later, did not turn out well.

This is how Audi will take the decision to modify the vehicle to adopt the new configuration. R15+. The latter will have the merit of finishing on the second step of the podium in 2010 during the 1000 km of Zhuhai (China) and at his foot the following year at Sebring once again. Note all the same that another R15 TDI + will win the most prestigious endurance race in 2010.

On the technical side, little is known of what Audi Sport hides in its machines. His block V10 5.5 turbo, built entirely in aluminum, would develop 600 ch and over 1 050 Nm. Insane torque obtained thanks to diesel technology. We are still far from the truck engine ..!
