The Lion brand announces that it will become fully electric in 2025, and is giving itself the means to achieve this by producing its own batteries.
Many manufacturers have already announced their intention to offer only electric models in their range within ten years, such as Alpine, Bentley, Fiat, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover or Volvo, to name but a few. only a few. For his part, Peugeot had not yet officially set a date… Until today.
Indeed, the Lion brand has just announced on social networks its intention to offer only exclusively electric vehicles within its range by 2025. At this time, the Peugeot range will consist of electric versions of current vehicles, such as the Peugeot e-208 and e-2008 for example, but also new 100% electric models which will be announced in the future.
To support this inevitable transition, Peugeot has given itself the means to succeed: Stellantis and Saft, a subsidiary of the Total group, recently joined forces to create Automotive Cells Company (ACC), which will produce batteries in the French factory in Douvrin (62), but also in Kaiserslautern (Germany).
The joint venture, which is expected to create up to 2,000 jobs to support its objective, aims to achieve a cumulative production capacity of 48 GWh by 2030: the batteries produced will be able to equip approximately a million cars, whether within the Stellantis group, but also for other manufacturers.
