Volkswagen is rolling out its updates remotely for ID models.

Volkswagen provides remote updates for customers of its all-electric models: ID.3, ID.4 and ID.4 GTX.

Volkswagen plans to provide customers with its ID.3, ID.4 and ID.4 GTX, free remote software updates, also called “Over-The-Air” (OTA), approximately every three months. These updates are an opportunity to correct bugs, add or modify on-board features, without requiring the passage in a concession of the mark.

This advanced functionality is possible thanks to the permanent internet connection of the 100% electric models in its range, which also allows the manufacturer from Wolfsburg to imagine the provision of a multitude of additional services and features, this time for a fee: for example, new driving aids, or better charging performance. What “generate hundreds of millions of additional income in the years to come” according to Volkswagen!

The update ID. Volkswagen Software 2.3 in detail

But back to the first update offered to customers of ID.3, ID.4 and ID.4 GTX, which is called « ID. Software 2.3 ». It modifies, for example, the operation of the ID. Light, the light strip located at the bottom of the windshield: this now displays information to help the driver adopt eco-driving.

The image processing of the multifunction camera present on the windshield has also been improved, in order to recognize motorcycles and other road users more quickly, day and night, but also to improve the function of automatic switching on of the main beam headlights, which becomes more precise.

Finally, in order to take into account the feedback from the first ID. Customers, the central touch screen of the in-car infotainment system has been updated, with clearer and more refined graphics, and now offers more intuitive operation.
