Porsche Boxster and Cayman: 5,000 models recalled

Porsche has launched a new recall campaign involving nearly 5,000 Boxster and Cayman models, following a problem with the rear axle.

The most prestigious brands are not free from flaws, as evidenced by this new recall campaign organized by Porsche in the United States, which concerns 4.934 Boxster and Cayman models of the 981 generation.

According to the recall, a manufacturing defect was found on the rear axle carrier side sections, which do not meet specifications. Porsche clarifies that an analysis of the materials has revealed that the proportion of strontium in the component exceeds the specified threshold, leading to deterioration of the material’s properties.

Porsche Boxster and Cayman: a major safety issue

The defective part may crack or break over time, which could increase the risk of an accident and lead to loss of vehicle control. Porsche also adds that a clicking noise could be heard from the rear of the car.

The affected models are the Porsche Boxsters manufactured between 1is

September 2012 and July 31, 2014, Boxster S produced between September 5, 2012 and July 31, 2014, as well as Boxster GTS produced between May 19, 2014 and July 29, 2014.

The Porsche Caymans concerned were manufactured between January 18, 2013 and July 31, 2014, the Cayman S between December 17, 2012 and July 30, 2014, not to mention the Cayman GTS produced between May 26, 2014 and July 29, 2014.

Porsche dealers were notified of the recall on September 15, 2021, while owners will be notified from 1is November 2021. Defective parts will be replaced by new parts no longer presenting this security issue.
