the world’s 1st electric pick-up left the factory

The young American brand Rivian has finally delivered its first vehicle to its customers, the R1T which is a 100% electric pick-up!

The American brand Rivian is already starting to deliver the first copies of its pick-up electric! The first electrified all-terrain vehicles rolled off the assembly line in Illinois this week.

The brand’s first vehicle

As is often the case with young electric vehicle brands, the good news first made the rounds on social networks, in particular Twitter. This week, Rivian built the first examples of its fully electric pickup R1T for its customers. The founder and CEO of the company, Robert “RJ” Scaringe, made the announcement himself on the social network. He posted photos of the Rivian plant in Normal, Ill., A former Mitsubishi site, showing the first vehicle to employee applause.

Limited cars « Launch Edition » currently in production will be delivered to the first customers this month. Later this year, the first customer vehicles of the R1S model, an electric SUV will also roll off the production line. And from January 2022, regular variants of the two models, called “Adventure” and “Explore”, will be built and released to customers. Rivian has therefore managed to take the plunge by moving from a start-up to a real manufacturer of electric cars.

Tesla behind in this segment

Tesla has already taken this step for a long time, but the Cybertruck Elon Musk is not yet in mass production. Recently, the latter said that the model was falling behind and that the production of electric pick-up in the Texan Gigafactory would not start until the end of 2022 ultimately ! The cruising speed of production will only be reached in the course of 2023.

In the United States, pick-up constitute an important and very lucrative segment of the automotive market: the three best-selling models in the country are pick-ups! To achieve series production, the young brand was helped by a large number of investors, including the manufacturer Ford and the giant Amazon notably. The latter plans to purchase 100,000 electric delivery trucks from the company by 2025.
